Marcia Sytsma for Bloomington School Board
Please allow me to introduce myself. My name is Marcia Sytsma and I am a candidate for the Bloomington School Board. I am a single mother of two teenage daughters who attended Bloomington Public Schools, one of whom has graduated and is currently in college. I was inspired by my daughters’ experiences to volunteer within Bloomington Public Schools working with students and going on to represent schools on the district curriculum advisory committee. My experience as a school district volunteer and working with my daughters’ teachers led me to pursue a doctorate in school psychology. I was the fifth student to earn a PsyD in School Psychology from MSU, Mankato. During graduate school, I spent one year of my practical field experience in Bloomington schools, one year in Minneapolis, and advanced practica in Belize and a rural district in south-central Minnesota. Last year, I was also elected to the Minnesota School Psychologists Association Board of Directors and served as the MSPA representative to the Minnesota Department of Education Student Discipline Working Group.
